Notes

This unaccompanied setting of part of Psalm 42 has a wide emotional range, which has been admired by both singers and listeners. It builds to an emotionally charged climax. It was commissioned for a service to mark a 25th anniversary of ordination but suits any concert or service where reflection is appropriate. It is essentially meditative, reflecting the text: ‘When shall I come to appear before the presence of God’. The reflective quality is achieved by the choir repeating that text under a free-ranging tenor solo. Harmonically, the work is accessible by a confident choir.

The piece has been recorded by Sonoro, directed by Neil Ferris and can be accessed via YouTube or Spotify.
