The title “de l’herbe qui s’éveille”, which roughly translates as “of grasses which awaken”, refers to a line from Lutoslawski’s Paroles Tissées, from which some of the musical material is also derived. A single rising melodic phrase gradually emerges, placed beside or within wide spread chords, and with which the music ends. The piece explores static and active string textures, moving at different rates from dormancy to vibrancy.
