Notes

These antiphon texts by Hildegard of Bingen, abbess of the Rupertsberg, are structured like Great Antiphons (also known as O- antiphons on account of their invocatory nature, as in the well-known Advent O- antiphons). With their direct invocations of God the Father they have something of the nature of private prayers, the opening invocations being followed by petitions – to become closer to God through imitation of Christ, whose mediation is also sought in lifting the burden of needs and cares.
