Our recollections of specific events sometimes come slowly. Flock depicts this psychological process — consisting of sharp fragments, vague emotional sensations, and blurry images that gradually pinpoint a moment in time.  As the piece progresses, this memory comes in to focus sonically. It was a moment of extraordinary interactions: between a lost hiker, a shepherdess, a hunter, and the bell collars from small herd of sheep nearby. Both the harmony and timbres of the saxophone quartet are derived from the distinctive sounds of this field recording.
