Learning contemporary repertoire can be an incredibly rewarding experience – addictive for some!

However, to the unfamiliar, particular stylistic and technical challenges presented by composers can appear daunting. That’s why we’ve worked with our composers to select works for students.

Assessing the difficulty of contemporary works isn’t always straightforward. Some works which may at first appear technically undemanding can throw up some unexpected challenges. Some include specific techniques or interpretive demands. The works in Student Selection are each marked with one of the following indications:

Elementary – Intermediate (Ele-Int) : Suitable for lower to mid-grade players

Intermediate -Advanced (Int-Adv) : Contain some elements requiring advanced skills

Advanced : Overall more challenging works for advanced players
