Originally a much longer (too long!) written in 1994 for Ensemble Bash, this is one of my ‘Mexican’ pieces (the title, ‘silver butterflies’ is a fanciful evocation of the vibraphone and its flights of virtuosity, as well as an item of cheap, folkloric jewellery): in five sections, the main body of the piece is a diatonic, quasi-minimalist romp in 6/8.

The first performance was given by Chris Brannick and Adrian Sutcliffe in November 2013 at St Johns, Smith Square.
