Namib Gallop was composed for my niece Naomi to perform in competitions around Cape Town, South Africa. The title references a strong family connection with Namibia – the Namib Desert gives the country its name – and a fast 19th-century dance which imitated the gait of a running horse. The piece is aimed at violinists playing at about Grade 5-6 standard.
