As a non-string player I have tended to avoid writing much for solo strings, but I felt it time to attempt a piece for unaccompanied violin, which is anyway my favourite stringed instrument: the result is a continuous piece of musical narration, divided clearly into three different ‘tales’. I imagined a kind of ‘Scheherazade’ figure introducing each tale with a kind of ‘once upon a time’ figure. The piece was recorded on Lorelt LNT138 by Caroline Balding.
