Notes

Life often passes us by at a very fast rate, especially when we lead busy and overly-full lives. Major events often come and go quickly; birthdays fly by, leaving us to wonder where each day, week and month disappeared to.

Consider the life of the Moose Antler Fly:

They only live and feed on Moose Antlers – without which they would die – and their whole lifespan is condensed into a little over 24 hours. How many birthdays do they celebrate in that time? Do they even have any time for birthdays, or the occasional Moose Antler Christmas, Bat Mitzvah, or Eid?

This piece is a short homage to the Moose Antler Fly, containing a large quantity of information in a short period of time, with perhaps the briefest hint of remembering a birthday or two…

For Lesley Bell and Fiona McLeod, with thanks; funds for commissioning made available from the Scottish Arts Council.
