This work was inspired by a statement (which included the title phrase) from a documentary about elephants. It instantly made me think of urban life (Sauchiehall Street on a Saturday night, for example), with creatures of various shapes and sizes moving in and out of view. To cement this mixture of man-made and natural objects, I have drawn on references to dance music (in this case, Jungle/Drum and Bass).

Commissioned by West Lothian Council for the West Lothian Schools Wind Ensemble, conductor Russell Cowieson.

First performance at St. Margaret’s Academy, Livingston, 20th March, 2004. Revised March 2015.
