Notes

Anima Christi is a colourful and meditative piece. It reflects a fourteenth century text about symbolic elements of the Passion narrative. Meditation is most apparent in the opening and closing melodic sections of the work, which are related to form a triptych. The middle section reflects both the elements of the poem most directly related to the Crucifixion (‘Within thy wounds hide me’) and the poet’s response.

Organist Tom Bell has performed the piece widely and recorded it on the organ of Blackburn Cathedral. The recording is on the CD Northern Lights, on the London Independent Records label: LIR Classics LIR025.
