Trans-solo 6 was written for Jean-Claude Velin as the concluding cadenza of the trans- cycle written for and dedicated to the Modern Art Ensemble of Berlin.

Unlike all the previous trans cadenzas, trans-solo 6 precedes and indeed determines the music of the final sextet written for the ensemble. It also represents the final solo focussed on the virtuosity of a distinct performer. As in all the previous “trans” solos, I have considered virtuosity as a search for ever-changing perceptions of the ineffable. Perceptions leading, at least in my mind, to a higher state of consciousness.
