Notes

Tjur (Swedish for “bull”) is truly a giant beast charging across a celestial landscape, at war with cosmic forces. The image of a primitive warrior is portrayed, testing his skills against the ancient aurochs, on a cosmic battlefield amongst the stars. It is cast upon a large sonic landscape of varying textures and orchestral timbres, that collectively lead to a massive and violent climax. Technically, this work is constructed using basic elements of my musical language: non-octavating scales; symmetrical chord structures; several types of microtonalities; and a variety of manipulations of one rhythmic meta-tala…all existing within a carefully controlled proportional formal architecture. Tjur is dedicated to the memory of my Swedish Grandfathers, and is intended to be loud enough to be heard by them up in Valhöll on the day of Ragnarök.
