Notes
Anemoi was commissioned by Proemium Metals Brass quintet. In Greek mythology, the Anemoi were wind gods ascribed to each of the four cardinal directions. Similarly, the piece is constructed from four contrasting sections. The first is a choral-like texture that uses non-tempered sonorities drawn from the harmonic series. The second is a very fast-paced, scherzo-like section. The third section employs numerous extended techniques and also serves as a nexus between the other three. The last and final section is the result of the transformation of a fractal image into sound, a technique I have used in many of my works. This material is never presented in a linear manner, but is in constant development and transformation.
First performed Centre Cultural La Beneficència Sala Alfonsel Magmànim July 26 2014.
