Commissioned by “Lontano” and first performed at St. John’s, Smith Square, London.

“Theatre has always been a passion of mine, in all its aspects, including the theatricality of performance itself.  I find virtuosic display fascinating, often with an improvisatory quality found in the cadenzas of classical concertos. This work, then, was an attempt at writing a cadenza as the entire piece, with each instrument using the whole of its range, only coming together on two occasions. The first, in a hushed moment of respite, part of the way through and then again at the very end.”
