Bright White Lights is a homage to the visual artist Dan Flavin who famously created beautiful light sculptures from industrial fluorescent tube lighting. The buzzing and quasi-electronic tones sounding from the piano are all produced acoustically but might be heard as analogous with the quiet, flickering energy emanating from these amazing sculptures.

Bright White Lights was written for Rolf Hind who gave the first performance of the work in Birmingham in 2011. This revised version was first performed by Xenia Pestova at the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Italy in October 2014.
