Dedicated to James Weeks. Three madrigals which may also be performed separately:

  1. fantasma (6′)
  2. senso comune (4′)
  3. suo tormento (6′)

suo tormento was commissioned by EXAUDI as part of their Italian Madrigal book project and premiered by them, Wigmore Hall, 6 November 2013. EXAUDI premiered senso comune in the the church of St. Lawrence Jewry, London on 17 October 2019 and gave the first complete performance of all three madrigals in the Chapter House of Durham Cathedral on 4 February 2020. The Italian texts are by Dante (from the Inferno and Rime petrose) and Gramsci (from the Quaderni del carcere), each Gramsci text in some way a commentary on Dante writings.
