Written in loving memory of George Wreyford, my Great Grandfather who survived into his hundreth year. Prelude has a calm, meditative feel. A melodic pizzicato central section provides contrast to the rich character of the outer parts. The second movement, Song, consists of an extensive, singing melody evoking a range of emotions as it builds in intensity before descending to a tranquil, peaceful ending. This expressive work exploits the rich sound quality found by playing high on each string.
