Notes

Beldam is a late Middle English word referring both to a beautiful woman and a witch. This solo percussion piece was created for a scene in Eleesha Drennan’s dance production Channel Rose, where a witch-like character creates and destroys the structures around her in a ritual of fury.

Beldam was commissioned by Eleesha Drennan Dance for the production Channel Rose as part of the Sky Arts Fellowship and was first performed by Julian Warburton at Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff 5th December 2014.
