Notes

Prescrai and Pescrille were both written in October 2016 for Gianpaolo Antongirolami and Michele Selva, to whom they dedicated, and who gave the first performances at Goldsmiths College, University of London on 30th October 2017.

In 2013, I wrote a piece called Crai for two soprano saxophones for the same performers, which I revised radically three years later, in 2016. As I did not want to abandon the first version entirely, I decided to use the two saxophone parts as the basis of two solo pieces. The resulting pieces (which can be played separately, or as sequels to the revised version of the duo) do not use all of the music from the duo: some sections are omitted, and some of the remaining sections have been re-ordered. Individual notes and even entire passages have been rewritten. It has been a pleasant surprise to me to see two lines of music, originally written to be played together, taking on a new, and (I think) successful identity as individual entities.
