Daniel Saleeb

Daniel Saleeb (b.1985) is an emerging composer of wide-reaching and eclectic work, for the church, the concert platform, schools, film and theatre. He began composition study while a choral scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford, subsequently studying at the Royal College of Music with Kenneth Hesketh. His early work, a macaronic setting of the Magnificat, was the first to be given significant attention and repeated performances.
In choral and church music, Daniel has established himself as a sought-after voice, and has received commissions from some of the most exciting choirs and organists in the UK. As de cantar was commissioned most recently, in 2014, by the BBC Singers for live broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In 2013, Choir & Organ Magazine commissioned Deus, qui hodierna for the Chapel Choir of Merton College, Oxford, and Daniel was also a participant in the John Armitage Memorial Trust's 'Writing for Voices' project, which culminated in performances of Psalm, written in collaboration with poet Chloe Stopa-Hunt. During the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music, 2013, Daniel also presented two organ works: Toccata on 'Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort', commissioned by the festival for William Whiteheads Orgelbchlein Project, and Fantasia on 'Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort', written for Martin Ford, and premiered by him at Westminster Abbey. Both works have received repeat performances in the UK and the US, at venues including St. Paul's Cathedral, St. John's Smith Square, St. John's College, Cambridge, and Christ's Church, Rye, New York.
As an LSO Soundhub Associate composer, Daniel regularly writes instrumental music for the concert platform, and is active in writing for young musicians. His chamber work, Chaconne, for ensemble and tape, was commissioned by the Workers Union Ensemble in 2013, performed at NONCLASSICAL and toured with performances at venues including LSO St. Lukes. Currently, Daniel holds the post of Composer in Residence at Sheffield Music Academy, which will culminate in performances, at Sheffield's Music in the Round Festival, of his music for young musicians: The Adventures of Green Sleeves, The Boy Made of Bread, The Tramp and the Fiddle, and newly commissioned work,Johnny Notehead Plays the Word Machine.
Music for film and theatre is another important part of Daniels output. His soundtrack for Alpha : Omega (2013) was made in association with Pinewood Studios and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Fire (2012) was premiered at the BFI 'Dickens on Film' season and officially selected for the London Film Festival. Daniel also works frequently for the theatre, as composer and sound designer, and his work has been featured at theatres and project spaces including the Bridewell Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, the Arcola, the BAC, Bristol Old Vic and the National Theatre Studio.
